For many, they are like “the new Google Nexus,” but the truth is that the program was Android One, born as something very different from what it has become. In 2014, Google, together with several smartphone manufacturers, presented this initiative with the primary objective of bringing smartphones closer to those users who had never used one and countries in the developing world.
Over time, however, the platform evolved, changing its philosophy from “low-end phones for little money for everyone” to “phones that offer a balanced experience to everyone.”
What is Android One?
After a couple of years of comings and goings, we reached September 2016, where Google, together with Xiaomi, presented the Mi A1 while at the same time giving a further twist to the Android One initiative. That same day, the great G announced a change of course for the program to transform it, effectively, into the closest thing we have today to Google Nexus phones, while Android Go occupied the hole in the platform for emerging markets.
In this way, Android One became a platform through which all manufacturers who decided could create terminals whose software was as close as possible to Android pure, without unnecessary additions and with all the news that Google was adding to the operating system. The search engine company itself made evident the four fundamental pillars on which any mobile with Android One should be based:
- Simple: Android One phones will have pure Android, without layers of customization or additions that mess up the user experience in any way.
- Smart: all of them must include the latest technologies and innovations developed by Google – as long as they are not exclusive to Google Pixels.
- Safe: Android One mobiles must have the latest security systems and methods developed by Google.
- Updated: Android One mobile manufacturer must offer a minimum of two years of system updates and three years of monthly security updates.
Today, several years after the first announcement of Android One, several devices have taken advantage of this platform. Today, we are going to look at every phone on the market running Android One in 2021.

Xiaomi Mi A3, third parties were not always good
With a technical section traced to that of the Mi CC9e, the Xiaomi Mi A3 is the new generation of the king of Android One .
It is the first model of the family to house a photographic system made up of three sensors and whose interior is led by the Snapdragon 655 processor. The RAM remains at 4 GB, and the resolution of its screen drops to HD + despite that the size grows slightly, which has caused some discontent among fans of this saga.

Introduced in May 2019, the Motorola One Vision is a most curious phone. It is the second generation of the Motorola One series of terminals, which are part of this collection of phones under the initiative of Google.
Its main peculiarity is using a processor signed by Samsung, the Exynos 9609, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. It is also the first of the brand to have a perforated screen with a 21: 9 aspect ratio.

Nokia 9 PureView, the first mobile with five cameras, is also the first Android One with Snapdragon 845
The Mobile World Congress 2019 served as the stage for Nokia to present its best for this year’s first half. While the company refers to the new Nokia 9 PureView as a particular phone, and not as its flagship for this year, this is the most potent device Nokia ever created, with a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6 GB of RAM, and 128 GB storage that brings Android 9 Pie to Life.
Its differential aspect includes five photographic sensors on the back; three are monochrome, and the rest are RGB. The objective of all of them is to work hand in hand to obtain captures with the most incredible depth field ever seen in photographs taken by a mobile phone.

Nokia 3.2 and 4.2, sound design and software for all budgets
Good, pretty, and cheap. The Nokia 3.2 and 4.2 are two of the latest models announced by Nokia, and like the rest of the terminals in its catalog – except for feature phones and those based on Android Go – they are part of the Android One program.
The two models are the first of the company to have a drop-shaped notch on their screen. They integrate humble specifications such as a Snapdragon 429 or 439 chip -depending on the model- and exciting details such as the button intended to invoke the Google Assistant. They cost 139 and 169 euros respectively.

Nokia 8.1, with Snapdragon 710 and HDR10 screen
Coming from China and after undergoing a name change, the Nokia 8.1 becomes the latest model of the Finnish brand to join the Android One program. In addition, after the Nokia 8 Sirocco, it is the most powerful terminal of the brand to participate in this initiative, thanks to its 10-nanometer, 8-core Snapdragon 710 processor, accompanied by four or more 6 GB of RAM.
The Nokia 8.1 also has a 12 + 13-megapixel dual camera on the back, and one of its distinguishing features is the 6.18-inch HDR10 screen, with Full HD + resolution and a notch at the top.

Nokia 5.1 Plus: with a notch, Android One, and MediaTek processor for 200 euros
A couple of steps below the Nokia 7.1 is the Nokia 5.1 Plus. This low-price, intermediate-performance smartphone also uses the notch as a design solution and is accompanied by a 5.86-inch screen with HD + resolution, 19: 9 aspect ratio, and 2.5D technology.
Under the hood, we find the differential detail concerning 7.1: its processor is signed by MediaTek and not by Qualcomm. Still, Nokia ensures the same support for all its devices under the Android One initiative, so there should not be too many differences beyond a somewhat lower performance and efficiency than the model with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip.

The Spanish BQ has returned to the Android One program in style, with two new mid-range-premium devices at the top of its catalog. The BQ Aquaris X2 and X2 Pro are two devices with a great design, whose glass and aluminum body combines perfectly with the large screen and reduced frames that occupy its front.
On a technical level, the phones have the latest Qualcomm processors at mid-range, accompanied by 3, 4, or 6 GB of RAM and a 3,150 mAh battery. In addition, they are not left out of the dual trend camera, thanks to a 12 + 5-megapixel dual system formed by Samsung on the back and a single 8-megapixel camera with AI on the front.

Nokia 8 Sirocco, the first high-end Android One on the market
HMD itself calls the Nokia 8 Sirocco a “work of art,” and its stainless steel chassis, which surrounds two 3D curved Gorilla Glass 5 glass panels set on the front and back, offer a design at the height of the most expensive phones on the market.
The rest of the specifications are equivalent to any other high-end of 2017: 5.5-inch pOLED QuadHD screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 6 GB of RAM, and the same dual photographic system we find in the Nokia 7 Plus. The big difference with the rest of the top of the range is that, in effect, the latest Finnish flagship has Android One.

Nokia 7 Plus: 6-inch screen in a compact body for one of the best-designed mid-range
With a spectacular aluminum design with a plastic coating, which maintains the robustness of the rest of the models in the catalog, and a front part occupied by a sizeable 6-inch panel with hardly any frames, the new Nokia, also with Android One, comes to be located as a worthy rival for the upper-middle-range within the range of 400 euros.
Its interior is ruled by the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chip, accompanied by up to 6 GB of RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo as the operating system, enjoying the advantages of being part of the “One” family.

For this reason, and due to the great reception from the public, it is to be expected that throughout 2018, more and more manufacturers will get on the Android One boat with new and increasingly exciting models.
