We tested Xiaomi’s new affordable high-end smartphone: Xiaomi 11T in-depth review and opinion.
Despite being the little brother of his family, the Xiaomi 11T is a terminal that we must take into account if we are looking for a high-end device and we cannot afford to spend 600 or 700 euros on it.
It seems obvious that the Xiaomi 11T Pro, which we have recently analyzed, is the jewel in the crown of this new family of high-end smartphones from the Chinese manufacturer, but the Xiaomi 11T is a terminal that will meet the expectations of the vast majority of users. users and one of the terminals with the best value for money on the market.
The Xiaomi 11T is a full-fledged high-end device since it has a very fluid screen, a premium processor, compatible with the new 5G networks, which provides us with excellent performance, a high-capacity battery with ultra-fast charging, and a high-quality main camera that it inherits from its older brother.

Xiaomi 11T price and where to buy it
The Xiaomi 11T is the most contained model of the 11T family and is available in two memory configurations: one with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage is priced at 499.99 euros and another with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage that increases its price by 100 euros more, costing 599.99 euros.
Both versions are available for purchase both through the official Xiaomi online store and through other authorized distributors such as Amazon, telephone operators, and the physical Mi Store.
Where is the Xiaomi 11T located?
The Xiaomi 11T is a terminal that sits between the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite and the Xiaomi Mi 11i, being very similar to the latter in many of its features except for the processor, battery capacity, and charging speed.
The Xiaomi 11T has a higher capacity battery and faster charging, but the Xiaomi Mi 11i has a higher price because it is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, while the Xiaomi 11T bets on the MediaTek Dimensity 1200.
Apart from competing against its brothers, the great rivals of the Xiaomi 11T in its price range are the realme flagship killer, the realme GT, the OnePlus Nord 2, and its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi 10T, a terminal that was presented a year ago and that it has an IPS screen at 144 Hz and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor.

Design and display
As we said before, the Xiaomi 11T has a design very similar to that of the Xiaomi Mi 11i, with a body made of glass and plastic that has dimensions that exceed 16 centimeters high and 7.6 high. In this sense, the main difference is found in the thickness and weight, since the Xiaomi 11T has a thickness of 8.8 millimeters, compared to the 7.8 millimeters of the Mi 11i, and a weight of 203 grams, compared to the 196 grams of the Xiaomi Mi 11i.
The back of both terminals is identical, with a glossy finish that is a real magnet for fingerprints and dirt due to its mirror effect, and with a triple camera module located in the upper left corner that protrudes quite a bit from the terminal chassis. , which is why we recommend protecting it with a cover so that the glass that protects the cameras does not break and so that it does not dance when we place it on a table. In this sense, you should know that Xiaomi includes a transparent silicone case in the box of this 11T.
In addition, the back of the Xiaomi 11T has a slight curvature on the sides, which makes it more comfortable to handle, although this is not a terminal that is easy to handle with one hand.
If we turn the device around, we find a large 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with FullHD + resolution and a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, the same as its older brother, the Xiaomi 11T Pro.
This panel is protected with a Gorilla Glass Victus glass and how could it be otherwise, it is crowned by a small hole in the screen located in the center where its 16-megapixel selfie camera is housed.
We are facing a high-quality screen, with a very good representation of colors, outstanding sharpness, and more than correct viewing angles. In addition, this terminal has sufficient maximum brightness to see this large panel in full sunlight without any problem and a very precise automatic brightness, something that is especially appreciated indoors, thanks to its 360 ambient light sensor. degrees.
A key aspect of the Xiaomi 11T screen is its fluidity, since it has a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, being able to choose between this panel refresh rate or the classic 60 Hz, will allow us to increase the autonomy of the device, as we will see later. One of the points to improve in this section is the absence of an automatic mode that adjusts the screen refresh according to the content we are seeing, something that is present in other 11 series terminals of the Chinese brand such as the Xiaomi Mi 11i.
Like its older brother, the Xiaomi 11T has all the buttons housed on its right side, both the volume buttons and the on and off buttons. This last button also houses its fingerprint sensor, which is quite fast and precise and is located in a comfortable position to unlock the terminal as we pick up the phone.
Finally, in the upper part of this smartphone, we find one of the two stereo speakers it has and an infrared sensor to use this device as a television remote control, and in the lower part the USB-C charging connector, the tray for the two nano SIM cards and the second stereo speaker.
hardware and performance
The Xiaomi 11T has the hardware of a high-end device, but it is one step below its older brother, the Xiaomi 11T Pro, and other premium terminals of the Chinese brand such as the Xiaomi Mi 11i or the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.
Thus, this terminal has the most advanced MediaTek processor to date, the Dimensity 1200, an eight-core chipset with a maximum speed of 3 GHz, compatible with the new 5G networks, which is manufactured in 6 nanometers and comes accompanied by a 9-core Mali GPU.
This processor is backed by two versions of RAM of 8 and 12 GB, of the LPDDR5 type and as many internal storage options of 120 and 256 GB, of the UFS 3.1 type, not expandable via microSD cards. The unit that we have tested had the most basic configuration, 8/128 GB and we can assure you that the 8 GB of RAM is more than enough to manage all the apps and games that you have open in the background, although it is also true that some Of these applications we had to reload them after accessing them from the multitasking menu, but this fact is attributed more to the aggressive MIUI memory management system than to the hardware itself.
How could it be otherwise, the Xiaomi 11T has an integrated 5G modem compatible with the 5G SA and NSA networks, and said connectivity is available on the two SIM cards that we can use in this terminal simultaneously.
These specifications translate into excellent performance, since, at all times, the Xiaomi 11T has moved all kinds of applications and games with solvency and we have not noticed any type of lag even in games as powerful as Call of Duty: Mobile, PUBG Mobile or Asphalt 9.
What we must take into account is that the Xiaomi 11T gets quite hot, although not as much as its older brother with the Snapdragon 888. After spending some time playing a somewhat demanding game, it is noticeable that the device does not completely dissipate The heat generated by its processor is good, but the positive part is that it is not uncomfortable to use as it happens to the Xiaomi 11T Pro.
Battery and charging
One of the strengths of the Xiaomi 11T is its autonomy since it is equipped with a battery with the same capacity as the 11T Pro, 5,000 mAh, although with a slower fast charge, 67W compared to 120W of its older brother.
The autonomy tests that we have been able to carry out with this terminal show really good figures since we have been able to reach a day and a half of continuous use with almost 4 hours of screen time. In addition, in two days with very intensive use of the terminal, we have reached up to 6 hours of the screen with the refresh rate at 120 Hz and up to 9 hours of the screen with the lowest refresh rate, 60 Hz.
Regarding charging speed, the figures are just as good, since we have been able to charge the Xiaomi 11T to 50% in just 10 minutes and to 100% in less than 30 minutes.
Software and experience
The Xiaomi 11T has Android 11 as the operating system running under the latest version of the Chinese giant’s customization layer, MIUI 12.5.
MIUI is a software layer that aesthetically mimics iOS and that, at the performance level, is not one of the lightest out there, since it has a large number of features, most of which are quite useful.
Even though in recent times, MIUI has evolved and has become a much more stable layer, it still suffers from some deficiencies such as the high amount of bloatware that is installed by default on terminals, with applications such as Facebook, Netflix, or TikTok and games like Lords Mobile or PUBG Mobile.
Although, fortunately, almost all of these applications can be uninstalled, even some of the native Xiaomi apps.
But, without a doubt, the aspects of MIUI that weigh down our user experience are the disastrous memory and energy management of some applications, which forces us to configure certain settings for them so that the Xiaomi layer does not close when they are in the background and the terrible management of notifications, which means that we have to leave apps always running in the background so that their notifications continue to arrive.
One of the most positive points in this section is that the Xiaomi 11T, like its older brother, will receive three years of operating system updates and four years of Android security patches, a detail that we must take into account when choosing between this device and a competitor with fewer updates.
Cameras
The Xiaomi 11T inherits the triple rear camera module of the 11T Pro, where the main protagonist is a 108-megapixel Samsung HM2 main sensor, which we can also find in the Xiaomi Mi 11i, which has a pixel size of 0.7 μm, a focal aperture f/1.75 and it lacks an optical image stabilizer, delegating this function to the camera’s software.
This main camera is accompanied by two secondary cameras: one equipped with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor with a focal aperture of f/2.2 and a viewing angle of 120º, and the other with a 5-megapixel telemacro sensor with a focal aperture of f /2.4 and an optical zoom that is capable of focusing on objects that are between 3 and 7 centimeters away.
As for the selfie camera, the Xiaomi 11T has a single 16-megapixel sensor with an f/2.45 focal aperture, the same as the 11T Pro.
Our experience with the cameras of the Xiaomi 11T has been more than satisfactory, since its 108-megapixel main sensor is capable of taking photos with a great amount of detail and with a good dynamic range, as long as we take them in well-lit scenes.
As usual in all the terminals of the Chinese brand, its image processing tends to saturate the colors, which causes the final result to be quite artificial and unrealistic.
The wide-angle camera also fulfills its function and even though it is not one of the best we have tried, it achieves photographs with good sharpness and a good level of detail, as long as we have enough light.
The telemacro sensor of the Xiaomi 11T offers better results than the macro cameras of the competing terminals, but even so, it seems to us that a telephoto sensor would have been more useful.
As usual in this type of affordable high-end smartphone, when night falls, only the main sensor remains active, which is capable of capturing enough light in night scenes. The photos taken at night with the Xiaomi 11T lose a lot of sharpness, a lot of quality of detail, and have a quite appreciable level of noise.
In any case, the night mode is capable of making up for the shortcomings of these cameras by illuminating the night scenes without the result being too artificial .
On the other hand, the front camera of the Xiaomi 11T is capable of taking good self-portraits both during the day and at night, although, as with the rear cameras, when night falls, the selfies lose sharpness and quality.
As for video recording, this terminal is capable of recording clips in 4K resolution at 30 fps, although we have obtained the best results when capturing videos in 1080p resolution, both at 30 fps and 60 fps. One aspect that we must highlight in this section is that the stabilization of the videos is really good, being able to record moving clips in which we hardly notice that we are moving.
Under these lines, we leave you a small sample of the photographs taken with this Xiaomi,11, T, and just below it we also leave you the link to a Google Photos folder with the rest of the images that we have taken with the 4 cameras of this smartphone.
Other aspects to consider
In addition to everything stated up to this point, it is important to highlight that the Xiaomi 11T has two stereo speakers compatible with Dolby Atmos that provide us with a sound quality typical of terminals of a much higher price, with a loud and clear volume that does not distort. not even at full power.
