Why Samsung is preventing an old S Pen from being used with the new Galaxy Z Fold3

As we told you recently, the Galaxy Note range has been “reincarnated” in the folding mobile phones of the Korean brand and, more specifically, in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 that was presented in society yesterday.

Thus, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the first folding terminal from the Korean manufacturer compatible with the S Pen, but why does Samsung prevent using an old S Pen with the new Galaxy Z Fold3?

Next, we explain why.

Why Samsung is preventing an old S Pen from being used with the new Galaxy Z Fold3This is the reason why we will not be able to use an old S Pen with the Galaxy Z Fold 3

As we can read in the specialized media SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is compatible with the S Pen, not with any S Pen model, but only with the S Pen Fold Edition and the S Pen Pro.

This is so, according to the Korean brand, because using any other type of S Pen in the Galaxy Z Fold 3 could damage its folding screen. More specifically, the design of the tip of an old S Pen can cause permanent physical damage to the folding screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, and the new protective film boasts 80% more durability.

In this sense, both the S Pen Fold Edition and the S Pen Pro have special retractable tips developed by Samsung to solve this durability problem of the folding screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. These new tips are softer than the normal ones, but more importantly, they have a retractable mechanism that prevents the folding screen from being damaged when pressure is applied.

In this way, if you are thinking of buying a Galaxy Z Fold 3, you want to use the S Pen. You only have an old one; you will have no choice but to go through the box and purchase an S Pen Fold Edition priced at 42 euros or an S Pen Pro, whose cost goes up to 85 euros since this model has Bluetooth.
