OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G, Analysis: A mobile that will give a lot to talk about

OPPO wants to conquer the US consumer and is making significant efforts to achieve it. Its phones are increasingly successful, and with the different launches it has made throughout the year, it aims to attack all existing ranges, including the most Premium directly.

In the case of the OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G, the objective is to charm the highest technology enthusiasts, since it is a smartphone that aims to compete from you to all the mobile of medium-high-end benefits but at prices that still they do not hesitate with the always symbolic and prohibitive figure of 1,000 euros. At least for now.

OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G analysis a mobile that will give a lot to talk about

From the outset, this new flagship of the Chinese firm, with the permission of the OPPO Find X2 Pro, can be purchased for an official price of 799 euros, an amount perhaps somewhat higher than that of other phones with similar characteristics. Even so, its almost high-end features endorse it.

In the end, we are talking about mobile with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of ROM, a triple rear camera with wide-angle and two-fold optical zoom, Full HD + screen, and a spectacular 65W fast charge that takes the battery to the maximum in just 36 minutes.

If something can be blamed for not fighting with the big is the processor, as it equips the boy’s Snapdragon 765G, and there are superior mechanisms on the market. Anyway, we emphasize, the phone is fluid.

The first impression is excellent.

The first impression is really good

When the OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G box is opened, we find what Apple would call an attack on the environment because there is much more inside than a mobile. Jokes aside, OPPO includes next to the phone a SuperVooc charger that enables that ultra-fast 65W charge with which, in just 15 minutes, we will have 60% of the battery recharged. As we have commented previously, to fill the batteries to this phone, we will only need 36 minutes.

In addition to the charger, we find a headset with a USB-C head (no 3.5 jack input on this smartphone) and a primary transparent silicone case.

The first impression is really good 1

The first impression when you have the OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G in your hand (we have tested the version in Space Black) is that of a pleasant phone to the touch, with a more premium appearance than other previous smartphones from the Chinese firm.

Its glass back has a glossy finish with reflections of the letters “O” and “P” in an apparent allusion to OPPO, which, to put it mildly, can be a bit slippery without a cover. We have also noticed that fingerprints get impregnated and need to be cleaned frequently so that it does not look dirty.

The first impression is really good 2

Continuing with the outer part of the phone, at the top, we find only a microphone and a speaker on the edge of the screen. On the sides, the buttons for volume and lock and, finishing the round to the phone, at the bottom are the other speakers, the USB-C input for charger and headphones, and the slot for the two SIM cards that it supports.

A screen that looks like a charm

The OPPO Reno 4 Pro equips a Full HD + AMOLED screen 6.5-inch (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) that ends in a curve on the sides. It is bored in the upper left to make room for the 32MP selfie camera and has a brightness of 1,110 nits that stands out. The entire front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 glass, theoretically more resistant to scratches.

Despite its size, OPPO has added several functions to make its use with one hand more comfortable. For example, if you keep pressing on any of the lower corners of the front and then drag your finger slightly towards the center, all the icons on the screen where we are will be reduced to choose the one we want with the same finger.

A screen that looks like a charm

It also returns a quick options menu in the form of a small bar camouflaged on the right edge, to which we can add quick access to the applications that we use frequently or to specific actions such as the screenshot. We found it particularly useful with the calculator, as it remains in the form of an overlaid widget. You can continue to see the screen of the other application without problems.

At the end of the screen section, mention that the fingerprint reader is on it. It responds quickly and intuitively, even better than facial unlocking, which works very with masks regularly.

Personally, and evoking a few particular tastes, I miss the fingerprint reader on the back as in older devices, perhaps because of how I hold the phone.

Enough processor to perform fluently

As we have said, the behavior of this phone under the Snapdragon 765G is fluid, and there the 12GB of RAM looks on its own. The screen responds quickly to any command executed, and there are no noticeable jerks or waiting times.

This is helped by the 90Hz refresh rate, which, by the way, is not activated as standard. Instead, the default value is the automatic selection that leaves it up to the mobile to choose which is more appropriate at any given time, 90Hz or 60Hz.

It is an exciting option if we are concerned about battery consumption since the energy reduction is directly proportional to the execution of the refresh rate: the higher, the faster the percentage will drop.

Enough processor to perform fluently

We have tested both the fluidity of the screen and the processor’s performance with different games, and in none have we detected any negative aspects to highlight. Of course, for the price of the phone, we would have liked to see a jump in terms of the “equipped heart,” although, we repeat, at no time have we had the feeling that it was especially short or that the mobile was overheating with long sessions of play. Our concern revolves more around the passage of time, where perhaps you may start to resent it.

Finally, the OPPO Reno 4 Pro runs on the Android 10-based ColorOS 7.2 operating system, which gives the phone great customization possibilities. It comes with exclusive functions such as OPPO Relax to perform relaxation exercises, a preload of frequent applications to use the most open faster or the gestures above to use the smartphone with one hand.

Enough processor to perform fluently 1

Although, probably, the most interesting own application of all is Saloop, a video editing app that allows us to take the customization of our creations almost to professional levels. Of course, it is very reminiscent of the possibilities offered by Apple’s iMovie.

A fascinating section of cameras

A really interesting section of cameras

Regarding the photographic section, OPPO has chosen to integrate a triple camera composed of a 48-megapixel primary sensor, a super 12MP wide-angle, and a 12MP 2x telephoto.

In general, it behaves well, although there are details that everyone may not like. For example, when HDR is used automatically, specific images saturate excessively, eliminating the realistic touch perceived in most snapshots.

Portrait mode also performs excellently, emphasizing the photo’s main subject and leaving the background in the background. Even in less ideal light conditions such as dusk, it still responds perfectly.

In the gallery that we see below, the first image of each series corresponds to the standard model and then, from the same perspective, the portrait mode.

This leads us directly to talking about and emphasizing the night mode. The photo you will see below was taken practically without light, or at least our eyes did not see the same thing shown in the image. There is no doubt that the night mode is one of the great successes of the OPPO Reno 4 Pro and one of its most outstanding aspects with which it scores points compared to its competition.

Passing the front, the selfies have surprised us very pleasantly. Its 32MP is noticeable in any of the modes available in the front camera, including the one that allows you to add funny details to images, such as different hats and other stickers.

According to similar devices, the wide-angle also behaves correctly, highlighting the possibility of choosing the format we want for the image. Where we have seen a discreet operation has been in the zoom. The 20 available magnifications seem to be an addition to which little benefit can be taken since the loss of quality with the advance of the zoom is too noticeable.

Conclusions and opinion of Andro4all

OPPO has been planted in the US market in just over a year with everything it needs to succeed. Its phones are reliable, aesthetically attractive, and with an interior section equipped with cutting-edge technology in every corner, and the OPPO Reno 4 Pro is no exception. I would say more: this phone is a full stop for the Chinese company and the confirmation that it has come to stay.

The competition is tough, yes, with Xiaomi, Realme, or OnePlus, for example, doing things very well, leading to collective feedback that causes the arrival of better devices on the part of many fronts. Innovations are born at the end of diversity, and consumers benefit from that, although the range of options has become so great that sometimes we don’t even know where to start.

Conclusions and opinion of Andro4all

Focusing specifically on the phone that concerns us, the OPPO Reno 4 Pro is an exciting proposal from the Chinese firm that performs wonderfully in all sections.

We do not find too many reproaches to make beyond the fact that, perhaps, its starting price is not suitable for all budgets, and that will cause it to lose an essential share of the market it is targeting. We also believe it should be noted that for the amount of 800 euros, we would have liked it to have wireless charging and a more cutting-edge processor. For the asking not to be.

In short, OPPO is in a line that makes us optimistic with the signature, and the most evident proof is this OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G that we have no doubts that all those who decide to buy it will enjoy it to the fullest.
