The Touryst becomes the first PS5 game to achieve native 8K resolution and 60FPS

With the arrival of the new generation of consoles, the community does not expect anything other than the best possible functions for games. Now, thanks to the work of Digital Foundry, we have learned that The Tourist is the first game to reach native 8K on PS5.

Shin’en Multimedia’s work is also kept at 60FPS, allowing for superb image quality. As the group points out in its publication, the developer has confirmed that the rendering is 7680×4230 without using super-sampling, checkboard, or other rescaling techniques.

However, Digital Foundry details, PS5 does not allow output at 8K resolution through an HDMI 2.1 cable, so the result is 4K on the screen. It is possible to lower the resolution on The Tourist to 4K so that the pixels match the video output. However, the study has confirmed that as soon as Sony enables 8K, they will make the necessary changes to make the game look its best.

The Tourist began its journey on the Nintendo Switch at 720p and 60FPS in portable mode, and the progressive scaling towards other platforms has boosted its visual performance. Sony’s console already enjoys its last major update with the possibility of using an expansion for the SSD.
