IPhone 12: Great Leap In Screen, 5G Connectivity And Maximum Power To Aspire To Be A Best Seller

IPhone 12: Great Leap In Screen, 5G Connectivity And Maximum Power To Aspire To Be A Best Seller

Apple just made the iPhone 12 official. It is the intermediate model in this new iPhone generation, standing one step above the expected iPhone 12 mini but below the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max models. The iPhone 12 aspires to be one of Apple’s best sellers, just as the iPhone 11 has already achieved based on specifications close to the first line at a relatively reasonable price.

This year the strategy is repeated, and again, its intermediate model does not bet on the triple camera. However, an important (and expected) leap at the screen level is that the iPhone 12 implements OLED technology and Full HD+ (Super Retina XDR) resolution on a 6.1-inch panel. The 5G connection also takes center stage in this iPhone 12, which, on paper, will present a tough battle for less than a thousand euros.

A design that sounds familiar to us and a renewed screen

A design that sounds familiar to us and a renewed screen

The design of the iPhone 12 is similar to the one we saw in the last generation, although Apple has drawn the odd brushstroke with a different line. The first notable change comes from the hand of the frames, which are much tighter now on both sides and the top and bottom. Remember here that last year, the iPhone 11 had a much larger frame than the iPhone 12 due, among other things, to the lack of flexibility of the IPS panels. Thanks to the implementation of the OLED screen, the iPhone 12 has better frontal use.

Specifically, according to Apple data, the iPhone 12 is 11% thinner, 15% smaller, and 16% lighter compared to the iPhone 11, significant changes considering that this model has the same screen diagonal as last year.

A design that sounds familiar to us and a renewed screen-1

Thus, this year the iPhone 12 is practically equal in frames compared to the Pro models, reducing frames compared to the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. Regarding the much-talked-about notch, it continues to make an appearance, occupying a good part of the front of the device. If we turn the device around, we find lines practically traced to last year’s, with glass as the main protagonist.

The device’s aerospace aluminum frames have indeed been redesigned. Now they remind us more of the iPhone 4, being much flatter and straighter instead of the curvature that has accompanied Apple devices since the iPhone 6. In the case of this iPhone 12, the leap to stainless steel is not made, which continues to be reserved for the Pro models.

Regarding the panel, we have a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR screen this year with OLED technology. Thus ends the great abyss in front of the panel of the Pro models; since last year, the iPhone 11 arrived with HD + resolution and IPS technology. The refresh rate is 60Hz, nothing from Promotion for the iPhone 12 or its Pro brothers.

More power on board and 5G connectivity

More power on board and 5G connectivity

The processor that gives life to the iPhone 12 is the Apple A14 Bionic, a chip that has already launched the new iPad Air. It is the first mobile processor with 5-nanometer technology. Said processor has two high-performance cores and four cores dedicated to low-demand tasks to try to maintain a balance between power and autonomy. This processor supports both SA and NSA 5G connectivity.

As usual, Apple does not give figures on RAM, but it is expected to be 4 GB in this iPhone 12 and 6 GB in the case of the Pro models. The charger is lost in the box at the autonomy level, and the 18W fast charge is maintained. This means we will have to buy the Apple charger separately in case we do not have one at home.

The bet at the biometrics level is once again Face ID. Apple re-implements its 3D facial recognition aided by a point projector whose information is guaranteed to be stored locally. One of the great innovations in this iPhone is MagSafe, a magnetic technology that allows you to connect different accessories, such as charger cases. It also allows improvements in wireless charging, technology already present in the iPhone 11 but improved in this new iPhone family.

Dual camera with a better lens and larger aperture

Dual camera with a better lens and larger aperture

The iPhone 12 is committed to a double camera configuration, just like the last generation, with the iPhone 11. The main sensor is still 12-megapixel, along with a wide-angle also 12-megapixel. Like last year, we have an optical stabilizer on the main sensor. In this case, the iPhone 12 has a sensor with a better lens and an f/1.7 aperture, promising better low-light photos.

As is customary at Apple, the work falls mainly on the software, where there have been great improvements. The first of these is the new generation HDR, Smart HDR 3. A better dynamic range is promised, and the detail aims to be rich.

The big leap, however, is at the video level. The iPhone 12 is the first mobile to record in 4K Dolby Vision. Specifically, it can record videos with a color depth of 10 bits. In the same way, you can edit Dolby Vision videos from the Photos app, iMovie, or Clips, from the phone.
