The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 is now official. After sweeping the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 8 Pro, comes the new generation of Xiaomi’s mid-range for 2020. It does not come alone, because as we saw last year we also have a Redmi Note 9 Pro version. These are the characteristics of the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 9, a mobile that once again will try to position itself as one of the best-selling mid-range due to its great specifications in this price range.
We have a gigantic battery, four cameras on the rear, and a 6.53-inch screen with a hole in the screen. For performance, a new MediaTek chipset with eight cores has been chosen, thus differentiating itself from the Pro model, along with 3GB and 4GB versions of RAM. It is not the most complete mid-range at the moment, but it is a mobile with very good arguments to become an option to take into account without spending a lot of money.

6.53″ screen and rear fingerprint reader
This year’s mobiles have grown in size but fortunately, the commitment to the hole in the screen has helped its volume not seem so large. In the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9, we have a 6.53-inch IPS panel with a FullHD+ resolution. This screen is TÜV Rheinland certified for blue light reduction and offers a brightness level of 450 nits.
We are facing a mobile with a thickness of 8.9 millimeters and 199 grams, figures that are not exactly light but as we will see, they are quite logical if we take into account the large battery that it incorporates inside.
Unlike high-end models like the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, in this Redmi Note 9, we have a physical fingerprint reader on the back, just below the camera module.
At the design level, the terminal follows the line of what is seen in the brand, with a back with Gorilla Glass 5 and gradients of different colors. The four cameras are placed in a central rectangle, protruding slightly.
MediaTek Helio G85 processor and 5,020 mAh battery
Inside the Redmi Note 9, we find the MediaTek Helio G85 processor, with eight cores at 2.0 GHz. It is a chipset manufactured in 12 nanometers and accompanied by an ARM Mali G52 GPU. A “gaming” processor that is released for the first time on mobile phones with this Redmi Note 9. According to data from Xiaomi, the Helio G85 offers 21% better performance than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665.
Accompanying the CPU we have versions with 3 and 4GB of RAM and 64GB and 128GB of storage that can be expanded with microSD up to 512GB. But the highlight of the mobile is found in its large battery.
We have 5,020 mAh with 18W fast charging, although Xiaomi reports that the charger that comes in the box supports up to 22.5W. Additionally, we have NFC, a 3.5mm jack, and an infrared port.
Four cameras with up to 48 megapixels
For the photographic section, Xiaomi has chosen a four-camera configuration similar to the one we had in previous models. Specifically, we have a 48-megapixel main sensor along with three other sensors dedicated to wide angle, macro, and depth.
- 48-megapixel sensor with 6P lens with f/1.79 aperture and AF.
- 8-megapixel sensor with ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and 118-degree field.
- 2-megapixel sensor with a macro lens (2 cm – 10 cm)
- 2-megapixel sensor for depth analysis.
