How to adjust the download settings on your Android mobile

You download a file from the browser on your mobile, and you have no idea which folder it has gone to. If it has ever happened to you, it is very likely that you still do not know that Android allows you to configure downloads.

Whichever browser you use, you can choose which folder the files you get from the Internet are downloaded. In this guide, we explain how to do it step by step.

How to adjust the download settings on your Android mobileFind the folder where your files are downloaded.

First of all, it is convenient to check the current download location of your Android mobile to know where the downloaded files are being saved.

To do this, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Open the browser app –Chrome, or any other web browser such as Firefox or Edge -.
  2. Access the browser options menu and tap on the “Downloads” section.
  3. Tap on the options menu, usually indicated by the gear icon, and select the option “Location of downloads.”

There, the download path will appear where all the recently downloaded files have been stored. In general, the path is the same on any Android mobile regardless of its software, so the download folder of a Samsung mobile will most likely be the same as the download folder of a Xiaomi mobile.

Change the download folder on your mobile

Now, you know where the downloads are stored on your mobile. The next step is to change the download path through the browser.

To change the route, there are several different ways. One of them is using a download manager for Android, which allows you to gather all the downloaded files in one place and manually choose where each one is downloaded.

Using one of these tools is probably the most effective way to choose the download folder for each file retrieved from the Internet.

File. One of the most popular apps in this category is Advanced Download Manager. This free utility allows you to download up to three files simultaneously, granting controls such as the ability to view and choose the download folder or select multiple paths based on the type of file.

But, if you don’t want to get too complicated and all you need is to manually change the download folder, you will need to return to the browser to follow these steps:

  1. Open the browser app –Chrome, or any other web browser such as Firefox or Edge -.
  2. Access the browser options menu and tap on the “Downloads” section.
  3. Tap on the options menu, usually indicated by the gear icon, and select the option “Location of downloads.”
  4. Check the option “Ask where to save the files.”
  5. The next time you download a file, you will see a pop-up with the file name and the download path. If you tap on the second option, you can choose the route.

It is worth mentioning that, in the case of Chrome, the browser automatically chooses a download path based on the file type, and it is not possible to choose a folder other than the one provided by the browser.

In other browsers, it is possible to manually choose the download path by following the same steps that we have explained. Remember that to recover the downloads folder and access the downloaded files, you need to use a file explorer for Android.
