A new surname to show that the flagship of the South Korean manufacturer is more complete than ever. Along with the new Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus, the brand’s largest model has state-of-the-art technical features. It is worthy to place this Galaxy S20 Ultra as one of the best mobile candidates of the year.

The new Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra’s design remains close to the Galaxy family’s recognized lines. We have a slightly curved glass body, where the main difference is in the back and the new square module to locate the cameras.

It is a mobile with generous dimensions resulting from its 6.9-inch panel. The thickness has remained relatively close to its little brothers, with 8.8 millimeters. The same does not happen with the weight, where due to everything it incorporates inside, the new S20 Ultra rises to 220 grams.

The chosen Dynamic AMOLED panel has QuadHD+ resolution in a 20:9 format and 3,200 x 1,440 pixels. Samsung traditionally stands out for its screens, and in this model, we are faced with the most cutting-edge specifications, with HDR10 + compatibility, a pixel density per inch of 511, and, as is the case with the rest of the Galaxy S20 models, 120 Hz refresh rate.

One more year, the flagship of Samsung has protection against water and dust with IP68 certification. At the design level, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is relatively compact considering its large screen size, and it is that little by little, the relative percentage of the panel has been improving to reach 89.9%, according to GSMArena calculations.

Up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM

The new Samsung Galaxy is usually chosen to release the latest components from the manufacturer; this year is no exception. We have the new Exynos 990 for the processor, which promises up to 20% more performance than the previous generation. It is a chipset manufactured in 7 nanometers, with two Cortex A76 cores, two custom cores, and four Cortex A551 cores. For the GPU, the new ARM Mali-G77 MP11 is introduced.

Next to the processor, we have a new RAM. This year, the most powerful Android phones introduced LPDDR5 memory, with 30% less consumption. In the case of the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the base model starts at 12GB and is expanded, for the first time in the industry, to 16GB of RAM. More than many of today’s laptops.

For Samsung storage, it will start at 128GB UFS 3.0 and increase to 512GB in the higher version; both will also be expandable by microSD card up to 1TB.

Another of the highlights of the new Galaxy S20 Ultra is the huge battery introduced to compensate for its large screen. It has 5,000 mAh, 45W fast charging through the USB Type-C port, and compatibility with 9W wireless charging.

Among the additions of this Galaxy S20 Ultra, we find speakers signed by AKG, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 6, compatibility with 5G SA and NSA networks, and Android 10 together with OneUI for the operating system. Regarding biometrics, it has facial recognition and a fingerprint reader integrated under the screen.

In the photographic section, the Galaxy S20 Ultra goes one step further than the Galaxy S20 Plus and incorporates a module with three rear cameras, an LED flash, and a TOF sensor. A square module with the ‘Space Zoom: 100X’ logo and a rather distinctive design.

The main sensor is a 108-megapixel wide-angle lens with an f/1.8 aperture, OIS and which, using the ‘Pixel Binning’ technique, produces 12-megapixel 2.4µm images. Accompanying we have a 12-megapixel Ultra-wide sensor, f / 2.2 lens, and 1.4µm pixels.

For the telephoto, Samsung takes a big leap compared to last year and incorporates a 48-megapixel sensor, with an f/3.5 focal lens, OIS, and a 10x hybrid zoom, which in digital reaches 100x. The sensors are not left here, because despite incorporating a triple camera, it also adds a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor to improve depth.

The video is another of the key sections of the Samsung Galaxy S20 and it is that, as the brand already explained when talking about 8K, these new Galaxy S20 can record in 8K resolution.

For the front camera, Samsung bets on a 40 MP sensor and f/2.2 aperture lens, which produces 10-megapixel images with a pixel size of 1.4µm.
