Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 2021: Xiaomi’s Historic Bestseller Returns Renewed To Try To Sweep The Mid-Range

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 2021 Xiaomi's historic bestseller returns renewed to try to sweep the mid range

If something has worked, don’t touch it, “virgin, virgin, let me stay as I am” or whatever we want to call it. Xiaomi has decided to retry it with a successful model and has presented the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 2021, thus recovering the Redmi Note 8 (or Redmi Note 8T, as it reached the international market).

According to Xiaomi itself, the Redmi Note 8 series is among its most successful lines, exceeding 30 million units (and beware, in May 2020, amid a pandemic, when sales dropped to historic lows in the market ). Hence, the brand has rescued it, updating it on the outside and almost completely maintaining the specification sheet, although leaving behind the Snapdragon 665 and 3 GB of RAM.

A different rear, but very 2019

The new Redmi Note 8 2021 is integrated into the still current fashion for gradients and shiny rears with these effects, more or less marked depending on the color it is. The rear module remains on the left side, also being vertical and with the brand both on the back and the front frame (on the chin). Very Redmi and a lot of Redmi.

Speaking of the front, the brand has been conservative to the point of not saying goodbye to the notch. The front camera is in the middle, with a “U” shaped notch and quite a small side and top frames, with all the buttons on one side and the rear fingerprint reader.

The screen is maintained, without seeing that they have taken the opportunity to increase the refresh rate or change some aspects such as the type of screen or even the design, as we have commented. Thus, it is a 6.3-inch panel with FullHD+ resolution (2,340 x 1,0808 pixels) protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and with up to 500 nits of brightness (typical).

The dimensions are practically the same (with negligible variations), maintaining the weight of 190 grams (in fact, they were 192 in the original Redmi Note 8). The infrared port and the 3.5 mm minijack are also maintained.

Switch to MediaTek and surprisingly stylish cameras

In the processor we see that MediaTek has been trusted this time, opting for the popular Helio G85. In addition, it no longer starts with 3 GB of RAM, but both versions (64 and 128 GB) come with 4 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, with a tray for microSD.

The mobile is dual-SIM and is careful, it comes with MIUI 12.5 on Android 11. Of course, what this international version does not finally present is NFC (something that the Redmi Note 8T did present).

The battery remains at 4,000 mAh, thus surely contributing to the fact that the weight has not increased (as well as the thickness). Also 18-watt fast charging, including a 22.5-watt charger in the box.

As for the cameras, the specifications are the same as we saw in its predecessor and namesake, that is to say: a camera with a higher resolution sensor, a wide-angle lens, and what would be two rather a filler cameras (macro and depth ). In this way, we see that the original combination fits into the fashion that we see today in mid-range mobiles that take fewer risks in this regard.

  • 48-megapixel main sensor (1/2 inch, 0.8 μm pixels) with f/1.79 aperture lens.
  • Ultra-wide-angle camera with an 8-megapixel sensor and lens with f/2.2 aperture and 120-degree field of view (102 effective degrees due to distortion correction).
  • 2-megapixel sensor for the macro camera, with f/2.4 aperture lens.
  • 2-megapixel depth sensor, with f/2.4 aperture lens.
  • Front camera: 13-megapixel sensor and lens with f/2.0 aperture.
